Chemistry The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), one of the world's most relevant bodies in the field of Chemistry, has C a research of the University of Navarra on neglected diseases in Latin America. The initiative is led by Antonio Monge, director of the research center in Applied Pharmacobiology (CIFA) and professor at School of Pharmacy at campus.

Specifically, the project aims to draw attention to these pathologies and promote the research of new drugs to fight them. Thus, it will try to identify researchers and analyze laboratories in that region of the world working on the finding of drugs to combat diseases such as Chagas, malaria, tuberculosis, dengue, leishmaniasis or leprosy, among others.

Extension of the study to India and Southeast Asia

Likewise, the next step is to create a network of scientists who will focus on this field and extend the model to other areas of the world such as India or Southeast Asia.

IUPAC, which coordinates chemical societies around the world, will provide $6,000 in funding for the study, which will begin later this month and last for three years. programs of study In addition to Prof. Monge, who will coordinate project, Michael Liebman of Strategic Medicine and Mukund Chorghade of Chorghade Enterprises (USA); Giorgio Tarzia of the University of Urbino (Italy); Arun Ganesan of the University of Southampton; and Robin Ganellin of University College London (UK) will participate.

With the initiative and direction of CIFA of the University of Navarra, a website on neglected diseases has been created in this framework , with the sponsorship of the Real Academia Nacional de Farmacia del high school of Spain. It has the partnership of all the Latin American academies of Pharmacy, which will also be integrated in the project IUPAC now C.
