Marta Pueyo, a student committed to the environment
This biology student collaborates with a cultural association that promotes health through environmental awareness.
Marta Pueyo, a senior biology major at the School of Science at the University of Navarra, has contributed to the publication of "Everything Tends Toward Red," a guide the "Itineraries of Nature" series published by the association "Vivir con el Río," with which she collaborates to promote its activities. This organization was founded 20 years ago with the goal educating the public about environmental stewardship and promote healthy promote among residents of the Teruel region.
According to Pueyo, "these pocket guides were started by a biology professor at the University of Zaragoza who, in turn, was partner of the association. And, for this reason, "Vivir con el Río" began to get involved in their production". So far three have been published: Enclaves de interés natural, Cicloturista Teruel-Fuensanta, and Todo tiende al rojo. The aim is to encourage people to get to know the areas described and learn to value and enjoy them," the author emphasizes.
In the publication you can find several itineraries for walking: from the old spa of Villel (Teruel); the history of the Hyacinth flower and the quartz crystal "Jacinto de Compostela"; the versicolored clays that surround these places; a fantastic story about the spa and the baths of Villel; a historical reference letter about its history and the properties of its waters; the vegetation that predominates in this area of Villel; and geological maps.
Integrated in the network Aragonese Health Promotion Projects.
"Living with the River" is a communityproject based on the participation of the population and that addresses the topic of caring for the environment as a tool to improve the health of a community. The project arose in the health center of Villel (Teruel) in 1992 for promote social participation processes with the aim of modifying or improving lifestyles and environmental conditions in the region. It is integrated in the network Aragonesa de Proyectos de Promoción de Salud.
The cultural association "Living with the River" is the manager to keep alive this project of health whose axis of interest is the river, not only as water flow but as source of life, landscape, history, culture, leisure... This river is the Turia that unites all the territory where project Vivir con el Río is deployed, and that includes the towns of Teruel, Villaspesa, Villastar, Villel, Libros, Cascante, Cubla, Valacloche, Camarena, Mas de la Cabrera, Tramacastiel and Riodeva.
