All set for the World Infographics Summit to be held at School de Comunicación
For five days, Pamplona will become the world capital of computer graphics, with the presence of dozens of renowned professionals.
From Sunday, March 10 to Friday, March 15, the School of Communication of the University of Navarra will receive dozens of infographers from the most varied media around the world, who will gather at the most important World Infographics Summit: Malofiej, considered as "the Pulitzer of infographics". Malofiej is the annual event that culminates each year's work of the SND (Society for News Design), a non-profit organization that brings together 2,600 visual journalists from around the world.
This is the 21st edition of the summit, which bears the name of an important Argentine cartographer, Alejandro Malofiej (1938-1987), considered a pioneer in computer graphics. Since 1993, Malofiej has brought together the most important infographers, who, for one week, will exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences.
Programme
The Malofiej 21 Summit will have three events in one. First, the work of the jury, made up of renowned infographic journalists who will meet to decide the best infographics of the year, among all those that have been submitted, both print and digital. In the last competition (2012), 1,513 works from 148 media from 29 countries participated. This year, more than 150 media outlets have submitted entries.
In parallel to the jury's decision, Malofiej also offers an infographics workshop, called "Show don't tell", in which for three days infographics professionals will work in teams to solve (infographically) the cases presented to them. The four renowned professionals leading the workshop are Alberto Cairo, Geoff McGhee, John Grimwade and Juan Velasco. work "Show don't tell" offers participants an action internship, in which, in addition to the final infographic, the planning, the teamwork and the reporting will count, as well as the final infographic.
Finally, the highlight of Malofiej will be the global summit, which will bring together media professionals from around the world, academics and students. Among the most prominent speakers will be Frederyk Ruys, director of "Vizualism" and co-founder of the Dutch Infographics Conferences; Jan Willem Tulp, a freelancer who has created a software that interweaves static and interactive infographics; Nicholas Felton, co-founder of Daytum.com and team member of Facebook design ; Fabricio Miranda, art director for the most important science magazine in Brazil, "Superinteressante", which has won more than 13 international awards (awarded by Malofiej, SND, among others). In addition to these, other speakers will also be present, important images from the world of infographics such as Juan Colombato (La Voz del Interior, Argentina), Stefanie Posavec, Jen Christiansen, Graham Roberts, Amanda Hobbs (ATH Creative) and Wibke Weber (professor at the University of Stuttgart and author of several books on infographics).
