The high school El Prado of Madrid wins the competition "Education, Science and Religion".

250 students from 19 schools in Spain participated in this first edition of competition .

The students José Cubillo and Nicolás Rubira, from high school El Prado (Madrid), have won the contest "Education, Science and Religion", organized by the group 'Science, Reason and Faith' (CRYF) of the University of Navarra. In the competition, whose first edition was held this year, 250 students of 4th of ESO and from 19 Spanish schools, belonging to 19 Spanish schools, participated. high school diploma from 19 Spanish schools, belonging to Fomento Centros de teaching.

The winning work , coordinated by Professor Ricardo Sanz, was submitted to the contest along with 108 other proposals, which had to focus on the "Relations between scientific teachings and religious teachings received at high school". After selecting ten entries, the final of the competition was held at the headquarters of Fomento Centros de teaching in Madrid, with an open workshop format, in which the participating students, their teachers and the jury posed questions and engaged in a dialogue where science and religion were intertwined. As award, the two winning students received 1000 euros.

The jury was composed of Ramón Torres, Deputy Director academic of Fomento Centros de teaching; Rubén Herce, professor of group 'Ciencia, Razón y Fe' (CRYF) and Javier Sánchez Cañizares, director of group CRYF. issue The latter emphasized that "the first edition has exceeded our expectations in terms of the number of participants and, above all, in terms of the quality of the papers and presentations made in the final phase". As he said, "it was very difficult for the jury to decide on the awards. We got the impression that there is a growing desire among school students to seriously address the dialogue between science and religion in their program professor, without waiting for university education".

Promoted by the group 'Science, Reason and Faith' of the University of Navarra, the project "Education, Science and Religion" seeks to analyze the problems perceived in this area by students and teachers, to try to provide possible solutions in the short, medium and long term deadline. It also aims to draw up a map of the main narratives on God and religion used so far in science subjects, to create a permanent group of teachers who will periodically address the fundamental pedagogical problems that arise when presenting a vision of the world where science and faith offer points of contact, and to begin preparing specific materials for science and religion courses in Spanish, which can be included in the curricula of high school diploma.
