The researcher IkerAusejo Mauleón (Arróniz, 1995) has been awarded the award of the group Spanish Association of Immuno-Biological Therapies in Cancer (GÉTICA) for the best scientific article of the year 2023 in Spain. The preclinical research , developed at the Cima University of Navarra, has been chosen for its relevance in the field of immunotherapy against cancer.

The third edition of the GÉTICA's Research Article Awards 2023 has awarded the work published in the journal Cancer Cell, under the degree scroll TIM-3 blockade in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma models promotes tumor regression and antitumor immune memory, for demonstrating that blockade of an immune checkpoint molecule reduces tumor growth and prolongs survival in animal models of the most aggressive childhood cancer.

The results obtained in this study, developed by the group Advanced Therapies for Pediatric Solid Tumors at Cima, provide a strong rationale for exploring TIM-3 blockade for the treatment of patients with diffuse intrinsic stem glioma (DIPG).

"I would like to thank the GÉTICA organization, and its committee, for awarding us the first award for the best article scientific research of the year. This research represents a breakthrough in the treatment of pediatric gliomas, most of which currently have no effective therapies," celebrates Dr. Ausejo Mauleón. In addition, the researcher emphasizes that "this work would not be possible without the partnership of the entire group of the Cima as well as other professionals of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and the groups of the international DMG-ACT consortium".

The goal of these awards is the promotion and recognition of GÉTICA members who have published important original articles in the field of immunology and immunotherapies against cancer. They have also awarded the article on the NADIM II clinical essay on therapies for non-small cell lung cancers, by Dr. Mariano Provencio.
