Mode 2 Science', a new paradigm for doing Science
The seminar was organized by the group of research Science, Reason and Faith (CRYF).
Ewa Agnieszka Lekka-Kowalik was in charge of delivering the seminar 'A new paradigm of doing science: Mode 2 Science and consequences' that the group of research Science, Reason and Faith (CRYF) of the of the University of Navarra organized on April 5 at classroom 30 of Central Building.
The speaker analyzed the conception of 'Mode 2 Science' as a new paradigm of doing science, whose main attributes are to bet on the research in the context of the application; the multidisciplinarity; the dispersion and heterogeneity of the centers of research; a high Degree of reflexivity and accountability, and the fulfillment of the new criteria for good science.
Some consequences of this new paradigm are to see the knowledge as a product, a fact that changes the way science is organized, as well as the special attention to the ethical norms that govern science and its social functions. It changes the idea of the autonomy of science, because it becomes a participatorymodel that also includes non-professionals in the development of professional activities.
He also showed in his philosophical analysis the theoretical and practical reasons why 'Mode 2 Science' is necessary, underlining the fact that the development of science depends on our understanding of what science itself is.
