The eight entities collaborating in this ambitious project are: Vicomtech, the BCAM (Basque Center for Applied Mathematics), Ceit, AIC, Tecnalia, Ikerlan, Mondragon Eskola Politeknikoa and the UPV-EHU. The centers involved in this bet work in strategic research projects where cutting-edge technologies are studied and developed for the development of integral systems of management, operation, maintenance and safety of transport.

This project, called Autolib and corresponding to the Elkartek program, aims to cover all the necessary areas to achieve a global automation platform for mobility. Its goal consists of merging the automation technologies applicable to different industrial sectors with specific weight in the Basque Country, such as: automotive, public transport and manufacturing companies in general, in order to achieve integral customized solutions related to the autonomous mobility .

Technological advances in Artificial Intelligence, Communications and Cybersecurity will allow not only the automation of transport at the product level but in all phases of the value chain and the industrial sector in general. Therefore, the automation of mobility will play a fundamental role in all transport systems, in parts and systems suppliers, in internal and external logistics, required in the factories of the future. Similarly, given the importance of the industrial sector (especially that related to transportation), it is vital to prepare for the paradigm shift of the mobility, understood as a final product and as phases of the manufacturing value chain.

Therefore, the automation of mobility will bring changes within the existing value chain and broadening horizons, so it will be necessary to be prepared from the manufacture of components to the most sophisticated systems of mobility autonomous, including simulators, vehicles, communications systems, infrastructures, etc.

An ambitious future scenario that envisages integrating industrial manufacturing, the railway sector and mobility on public roads into one platform, where a large number of vehicles converge, permanently transmitting and receiving information for safer and more reliable driving.
