Opening of Science Weeks 2009 at the University of Navarra
The inauguration was followed by presentations on microgravity, micromedicines, the search for life on Mars and insects.
The School of Sciences of the University of Navarra has celebrated the Science Weeks 2009. The opening ceremony, which took place at the Sciences Building, was attended by the President of the Government, Miguel Sanz; the President of the academic center, Ángel J. Gómez Montoro; the Councilors of Education, Alberto Catalán, and of Innovation, business and employment, José María Roig; and the Dean of the School of Sciences, Ignacio López-Goñi.
Political and academic authorities then inaugurated the photographic and antique science book exhibitions organized for the 50th anniversary of School, which will remain open for the next two weeks.
The academic center also held a series of six conferences that addressed in an informative tone issues such as experiments in microgravity, Biotechnology, micro-medicines to fight microorganisms, the role of Proteomics in the advancement of biomedicine or Biodiversity "on a small scale" -focusing on Pamplona-.
Science, theater, photographs and videos
On the other hand, the awards of the Science and Nature Photography Contest, held for the first time this year on the Facebook platform, were presented. And the School Pharmacy presented the second edition of the Nutrivídeo Contest, an audiovisual competition to promote healthy habits among young people.
In this framework, on the 20th, 21st, 27th and 28th the Casa de la Juventud was the stage for the new series Teatro y Ciencia: a set of four performances aimed at children and adolescents and interpreted by the group de Teatro de la Universidad de Navarra. In addition, students were able to attend to guided tours at the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA ) and the Museum of Natural Sciences; as well as to participate in the workshop experimentation of Biology, Biochemistry , Chemistry, Pharmacy and Nutrition for students from high school diploma.
The Science Weeks are organized by the department of Innovation, business and employment of the Government of Navarra through the Innovation Agency of Navarra (ANAIN).
