The project 'Public discourse ' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra organizes, together with the international network DiscourseNet, the 17th international congress DiscourseNet, which in this edition is entitled 'Criticism and reflexivity in the speech'.

The congress, which will be held from March 16 to 18, aims to be a place of meeting for researchers interested in the role of reflexivity and critique in the study of speech as well as in the role they play in different social realities.

The goal of meeting is to discuss the different ways in which reflexivity and critique can be employed to shape, in a meaningful way, individuals themselves, discourses and societies. The speech plays a powerful role in shaping who and what we are, as it shapes a person's subjective experience of reality.

Keynote speakers include Jan Blommaert, Professor of Language, Culture and Globalization and director of the Babylon Center at Tilburg University in the Netherlands; Johannes Angermüller, Professor of speech at the Centre for Applied Linguistics at the University of Warwick in the UK; Marianne Winther-Jörgensen, Professor of Culture, Society and Media Production at department of programs of study of Social Change and Culture at Linköping University in Sweden; and Ramon Reichert, Professor of New Media Studies and Digital Culture at department of Theater, Film and Media programs of study at the University of Vienna.

DiscurseNet Spring School

Following this congress, the Institute for Culture and Society also hosts from March 21 to 24 the second edition of the DiscourseNet Spring School, which in this edition addresses the critical use of qualitative, quantitative and mixed software for programs of study of speech.

The main goal of the activity is to explore and experiment the possibilities and limitations of the use of software in discourses related to research. Thus, it seeks to foster knowledge and critical awareness of the way in which software can (or cannot) be used in this interdisciplinary research field .

The activity is open to researchers from all fields - linguistics, literature, ethnography, communication, anthropology, political science - interested in the critical perspectives of speech, ethnology and discourse analysis.
