"I believe that the common principle of Nursing should be to provide patients with high quality evidence-based care and Education for health." This was stated by Professor Hannele Turunen from the University of Eastern Finland during her visit to the School of Nursing at the University of Navarra. For several days she taught Community Nursing at the academic center and held work meetings with professors belonging to group of research Impuls (research and Innovation for the Implementation of Health Promotion).
"These days we have been talking about the role of nursing professionals in the promotion of health in general, in schools or about the use of technology in this field, among other issues," explained the expert.
Regarding the progress of the research in Nursing, she pointed out that "it has developed rapidly in many countries and there are still challenges such as funding, the creation of a structure for academic research such as doctorates or post doctorates, but we are on the right track". In this sense, she was very proud that "the department of Nursing of the University of Eastern Finland in which work has appeared in the 42nd position of the QS ranking".
Finally, on what he foresees Nursing will be like in a few years, he assured that "the core of the profession will be the same: helping people with their health needs," but with different work environments, methods and knowledge. "Technology will be applied in the care and Education of patients and there will be collaboration with multiprofessional teams."
All these issues are also addressed in the School of Nursing in subjects of Degree such as 'Community Nursing', 'Nursing Care in Childhood and Adolescence', and 'Nursing Care to Human Diversity'; as well as in 'Priority Health Problems' of the Master's Degree in internship Advanced and management in Nursing and in the Nursing Summer School.
Agurtzane Mújika, professor at the University of Navarra, thanked Professor Turunen for her stay and emphasized that "her experience and knowledge has contributed to enrich the ongoing work of School Nursing and to identify future areas of work and collaborations".
