Allain Bueno, Professor of Human Biology and Nutrition at the University of Worcester (UK), gave a session on the role of phospholipids in oxidative stress, in the framework of the seminars organized by the research center in Nutrition of the University of Navarra.

About thirty researchers, professors and doctoral students attended the expert's lecture on the status of fatty acids in children with Down syndrome compared to those of their healthy siblings.

The visit of Professor Bueno is within the agreement of exchange international of teachers, within the Erasmus Program, which has signed the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra with the high school of Science and Environment of the University of Worcester.

Ensuring quality nutrition

The research center in Nutrition, attached to the School of Pharmacy and which has been running since late 2013, has as goal develop a quality research on nutritional issues and their impact on metabolic pathologies. According to its director Dr. Carlos Javier González Navarro, "it is oriented to the research related to obesity and its associated comorbidities, such as diabetes or metabolic syndrome". For this, the entity is structured in four lines of research: Nutridynamics, Biomarkers, Bioactive Compounds and Personalized Nutrition.

The researcher team has an internationally recognized track record in the field of obesity, overweight and associated diseases, with some 250 articles and nearly 4,500 citations since 2006 (Web of Science). It also has extensive experience of partnership with other entities of research and with industry. They have participated in the main public-private cooperation projects in research related to healthy eating (PRONAOS, HIGEA, SENIFOOD, INCOMES), as well as in several related European projects (SEAFOODPLUS, DIOGENES, FOOD4ME or PREVIEW) and others with companies.
