Jesús San Miguel, graduate of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra, has received the 'award Severo Ochoa a la research Biomedical', convened by the Ferrer Foundation for the research. The Full Professor of Hematology and head of the Hematology Service of the University Hospital of Salamanca was distinguished for his work 'Multiple Myeloma: contribution to the knowledge of myeloma cell biology and to the development of new therapeutic modalities'.

Jesús San Miguel, who is a pioneer in Spain in hematological transplants, will receive an award of 40,000 euros and a commemorative medal with the effigy of Dr. Severo Ochoa at the ceremony of submission of award, which will take place in Madrid on May 17, 2010.

The Ferrer Foundation for the research is a non-profit institution that, for 24 years, has been working to promote and recognize the progress of Biomedical research in Spain, thanks to the awarding of its award and Severo Ochoa Scholarships. In 1984, Professor Severo Ochoa, award Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology 1959, decided to give his name to these awards.
