"The eradication of the Humanities in the Education turns off critical thinking, on the contrary, the knowledge of history protects from manipulation and Manichaeism". This was stated at the University of Navarra by Carmen Iglesias, director of the Royal Academy of History since 2014. The also first woman to occupy this position, has given the master class of the Day of the patron saint of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the academic center, with a discussion paper that carried by degree scroll "History and language. On truth and lies".

In his speech, Iglesias defined the word and history as "indispensable issues for the social knowledge " and stressed the importance of taking care of them: "The task of every historian is to be a translator of the past, but history is not fictitious, so it cannot be told in any way. Language and history must have conventional rules".

The expert pointed out that the validity of the facts and formal reality "are two of the most attacked things nowadays" and highlighted the dangers of "unscrupulously using falsified historical narratives": "Narration has the capacity to modify the perception of historical facts, it can even affect the ethical inclination and destroy what unites us". In this sense, he vindicated the importance of language in the restitution of truth in historical facts: "The word can transform objective reality. Its connection is decisive, that is why the historiographic narrative must be supported by the truth of the facts".

Lorenzo Silva, scholarship of honor of the School of Philosophy y Letras

At the ceremony, chaired by the dean, Julia Pavón, the honorary scholarship of the School de Philosophy y Letras was also awarded to Lorenzo Silva, award Planeta 2012. In his speech, the writer, who teaches teaching in the Degree in language and Spanish Literature of the academic center, encouraged the attendees to make their works "a place of truths": "It is not the function of the writer to offer solutions or to be a counterforce to power, but to reveal the gears of reality. As Kafka said, to look at reality we all have a small peephole and the only challenge we can face is to keep it as clean as possible".

During the workshop , the extraordinary awards for the end of degree program were also presented to the graduates of the last academic year 2021-22. Irene Ramírez was awarded in Degree in History, who spoke on behalf of the winners; in Philosophy, Blanca Bistué; in Philology, Uxue Sarobe; in Humanities, Isabel Latasa; in Literature and Creative Writing, Borja Hernández; and in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Mario Tamayo. Also, Sergio Navarro has received the extraordinary award of doctorate in Arts and Humanities.

The Day of the patron saint has also been an opportunity to collaborate with the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. The students of the School of Philosophy and Letters have organized a solidarity sale whose profits will go to the fundraising campaign launched by the University of Navarra in favor of the Red Cross.
