"New Vedutism: the photographer's approach to the city" is the name of the lecture in which the photographer Manolo Laguillo explained his work "The provinces", which is part of the Tender Bridges collection housed at the Museum of the University of Navarra. In his discussion paper in the classroom Magna of the University of Navarra. School of ArchitectureLaguillo explained through 64 pairs of photographs, shown in diptych form, images taken in Zamora, Palencia, Soria, Teruel, Segovia, Cáceres, Ciudad Real and Jaén. "These eight provincial capitals have particular characteristics, they have grown little, they have a contained size, the edge between the countryside and the city is very clear in all of them," said Laguillo.

The author's project consists of photographing several Spanish provincial capitals that have very particular physical characteristics as a result of their recent histories. They do not belong to the rich periphery of the country, nor to the center, and their role, with little growth over the last century, places them in the background. The transition with the countryside, an environment that these cities possess, is still quite similar to that of almost all cities in Spain a hundred years ago, when industrialization was practically non-existent.

The photographer from Madrid wanted to show and explain the images, appealing to the audience to"dialogue with what you are seeing, with the diptychs that make up a narrative, tell a story".

Tender Bridges is a curatorial project promoted by the Museo Universidad de Navarra since 2002, whose Collection covers the history of photography in Spain, from its origins to the present day, focusing on photography from its documentary aspect in its relationship with the real and the imaginary.

This project proposes a dialogue between contemporary photographers with the production of those pioneers in Spain in the nineteenth century, also proposing -along with artistic creation- a theoretical reflection in the form of a book, lecture and other educational activities that allow to give voice to some works within a context that seems to reproduce a similar status : the beginning of great technological changes and forms of communication.
