The School of Philosophy and Letters organized last Friday a seminar on "Women and Social Change" at position by professors Ana Marta González, from department of Philosophy; Carolina Montoro-Gurich, from department of History, Art History and Geography; and Concha Martínez-Pasamar, from department of Philology.
According to Ana Marta, "there is a general perception that we are going through social changes, especially caused by communication technology, and one of them is the change in women's lifestyles". Along these lines, the speakers explained how the various changes in women's lives have had repercussions in the partner-cultural sphere.
From the point of view of linguistics, Concha Martínez-Pasamar pointed out that "the sex variable has been discovered as a variable of secondary order in the conformation of speech, behind the age variable". For her part, Carolina Montoro addressed the issue of work-life balance from the perspective of demographics, concluding that today "the world of work is still masculine and the world of work-life balance feminine".
