The artist Elena Asins, award Nacional de Artes Plásticas 2011, died yesterday at her home in Azpíroz (Navarra) at the age of 75. The precursor of conceptual art in Spain was developing an artistic project for the University Museum of Navarra, where "Menires" was to be shown along with other newly created pieces in a exhibition planned to be inaugurated in spring 2016.

The exhibition project planned to show "Menires" on floor -1 of the Museo Universidad de Navarra. Together with this piece, two other works by Asins: at conference room 0, a large-scale steel reproduction of the model "The Democratic City", a piece that represents a city with interconnected spaces and without hierarchies. The exhibition was to be completed at the conference room Museum Tower, with a video installation of about ten audiovisual pieces on Antigone.

"Menhirs" is a sculptural work composed of 40 lacquered wooden menhirs, measuring 24x24x24, dating from 1995. Each measure suffers the same cut on one of its faces. This cut obeys an imaginary grid in which there is a vacuum extraction that covers four parts of a surface and average part of the upper surface.

Elena Asins supported and was close to the University of Navarra Museum since its beginnings, when it was still a project. When in January 2015 the building was inaugurated, she assiduously attended the activities programmed by the art center, especially the exhibitions and film series. The last performance he attended was last October 15 at the world premiere of "Siempre/Todavía. An opera without voices", a musical and audiovisual creation by Alfredo Aracil and Alberto Corazón.

Elena Asins, a great artist and person who has contributed a lot to the artistic field in Navarra in recent years, may she rest in peace.
