University experts defend the benefits of olive oil in disease prevention in California

Miguel Ángel Martínez-González and Estefanía Toledo take part in an international lecture together with scientists from universities such as Harvard, Columbia or Padua, among others.

Researchers from the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra have presented in the United States the latest advances in the study of the benefits of olive oil for health and disease prevention.

They are Miguel Ángel Martínez-González and Estefanía Toledo, co-directors of CIBEROBN in Navarra, who are attending the lecture "The Olive Oil Promise" organized by the University California Davis and the committee International Olive Oil, two public, non-profit institutions.

Specifically, Miguel Ángel Martínez-González, who is also Full Professor at Harvard University, will speak on "Olive oil and cardiometabolic health in the PREDIMED trials". For her part, Estefanía Toledo will address how the consumption of extra virgin olive oil has beneficial effects on the development of breast cancer and more specifically, in the prevention of this disease after menopause. As well as the possible benefits in other types of cancer such as colon, bladder, digestive and ovarian cancer. 

In addition, the event will be attended by Frank Hu and Walter Willett, from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health; José A. Luchsinger from Columbia University Medical Center; Manuel Franco, professor at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and Francesco Visioli, from the Università degli Studi di Padova, among others.
