Ignacio López-Goñi: "People are increasingly interested in science, but still only 15% of the population".

The Full Professor of Microbiology of the University gave the seminar of the group 'Science, Reason and Faith' (CRYF) on the importance of the scientific knowledge dissemination

The Full Professor of Microbiology of the University of Navarra, Ignacio López-Goñi was in charge of giving the seminar of May, and the last one of the course 2016-17, of the group Science, reason and faith'.. Under the degree scroll "The captive knowledge : spreading science" he focused his message on the reasons why a university professor or researcher should be involved in the promotion of scientific culture, as well as the advantages and difficulties of such activity.

And he recalled that there are very interesting platforms to disseminate science, but perhaps the problem lies in the lack of recognition of the work of researcher in this task beyond the large impact journals.

During the session, the author of the blog MicroBIO y Pasteur's Corner of the magazine research y Ciencia shared his own experience in the knowledge dissemination of science through blogs and social networks, and analyzed the current panorama of the diffusion of science in our environment.

Ignacio López-Goñi is Full Professor of Microbiology and PhD in Biology (1989). For several years he was researcher of the high school National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) of the Departments of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University of Berkeley (California, USA) and of Molecular Microbiology of the University of Columbia (Missouri, USA).

In August 1992 he joined as a professor at the department of Microbiology and Parasitology of the University of Navarra, where he has taught General Microbiology and Virology at the Degrees of Biology, Biochemistry and Pharmacy. Between 2005 and 2014 he was Dean of the School of Sciences at the University of Navarra. He combines his work professor and research with an intense activity of scientific knowledge dissemination through blogs, social networks and massive online courses (MOOC). She is partner of the scientific knowledge dissemination platform Naukas and has published two informative books entitled Las vacunas funcionan (Vaccines work) and Virus y pandemias (Viruses and pandemics). He has recently been awarded the award Tesla 2016 for scientific knowledge dissemination .
