"We must work so that the researchers themselves from the beginning, almost from the base of the Education, see the business not as a competitor but as a goal, as a place where you can go to work". This was stated by the administrative assistant of State for research, development and Innovation, Carmen Vela, before the academic community of the University of Navarra, where she presented the medium-term objectives of the research and development+i Horizon 2020 Strategy.

Carmen Vela advocated favoring the partnership between the public and private sector, between the business and the university. "We are working to establish knowledge gateways, because the only way to solve the serious problems facing our societies, and our country in particular, is through the partnership", she said. In this regard, he stressed that the ministry is working on several calls involving companies and public centers.

The administrative assistant of State explained that today the strategy is focused on four objectives: one of them, the creation of a program of industrial doctorates "that will favor precisely that intersectoral mobility ". The other three actions have to do with promoting talent and employability, generating knowledge and orienting research and development+i to the challenges of society. In his opinion, "we have developed all the areas of knowledge to solve problems (energy, transport, bioinformatics, food security, digital society, social sciences,...). Let's promote transversality".

goal: Europe

In his exhibition, Vela recalled the European context and framework in which Spain finds itself and the importance of increasing the participation of its research community. The administrative assistant of State therefore encouraged researchers to request projects from Brussels. "We have possibilities, we must continue to make an effort. Spain contributes 9% to Europe, so it should return at least the same", she stressed.
