The School Theology Department of the University of Navarra has launched the digital version of the so-called Bible of the University of Navarra, published by the University of Navarra. EUNSA, which had already been published on paper between 1997 and 2004. It is an annotated and easy to navigate edition that, in its launch phase, can be purchased for 2.99 € from any mobile device, also in Latin American version.

The Dean of the School of Theology, Juan Chapa, explains that this digital edition is born with the goal of "bringing the Word of God to a large issue of people", seconding the desire of Pope Francis that the Bible can be carried in a mobile or a tablet, because "the important thing is to read the Word of God, by all means, and receive it with an open heart", as the Pontiff says.

In this regard, the Dean of Theology stresses the importance of adapting the Bible to the digital format when "today, according to surveys, eight out of ten young people use their smartphone to read". He also emphasizes the value of the Latin American edition, for being a "novelty publishing house" and for "the high issue of Spanish-speaking readers of the printed edition in Spanish, both in Latin America and in the United States, where, in addition, the English edition known as The Navarre Bible has been widely distributed".

Small size and easy navigation

The digital edition gathers the 6,600 pages of the five volumes in a 6 to 10 megabytes easy to navigate file , thanks to a quick index and an analytical index, which will continue to be updated and improved, and which allow easy access to any part of the biblical text.

All this is presented in an "elegant and sober" design , as the Dean of the School of Theology points out: "It respects the character of the printed edition. It is not an app, but a digital book with an index similar to that of the original edition and its appendices."

The text Spanish of the Bible has been translated from the original texts. It is complemented by a set of commentaries and cross-references that help to understand the central message of each passage. A total of 38,700 internal links are available. Thus, of the total size of file, one third corresponds to the original translated text and slightly more than two thirds are commentaries, indexes, introductions and maps. The new edition is available from October 17 on three platforms: iTunes iBooks, Google Play Books and Amazon Kindle.
