Nutrition experts from the University of Navarra give a lecture on healthy eating training

Marisol García, Susana Santiago and Itziar Zazpe, professors of Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Navarra, gave three sessions of training for young people organized by high school Navarro Youth.

The sessions consisted of two theoretical talks on nutrition and sports and eating disorders, and a practical workshop dedicated to healthy eating. About 80 people participated in these conference focused on promoting healthy lifestyle habits among the young population.

Knowing how to combine foods according to nutritional intention

Food provides the body with nutrients and energy. Issues such as quantity, composition or timing of intake are important, especially for the athlete. This was stated by Professor Garcia, who indicated the amount of carbohydrates, fats and proteins to be consumed according to the sport (aerobic or strength and tactical) subject . She also provided a list of beneficial foods to consume before, during and after exercise. According to the expert, for the athlete "a good food plan is as important as a good training plan".

Professor Santiago focused on eating disorders,"diseases of psychological origin related to eating habits or the adoption of diets" such as anorexia, bulimia or binge eating disorder, recently recognized by the association American Psychiatry. The session discussed the biological, personal and family risk factors that could predispose to these diseases. And especially, the relationship of these disorders with the media, fashion, sports, diets and miracle products, as well as aspects of prevention, early detection and nutritional Education .

The workshop on healthy eating was held at position by Professor Zazpe, who introduced the evolution of consumer trends in food. In her speech she explained that"the core topic to follow a healthy and balanced diet is to plan menus in advance and buy based on this planning". With these indications, the expert taught the attendees how to design healthy menus respecting the main dietary guidelines. She also exposed the most frequent mistakes and gave simple and healthy proposals to balance the per diem expenses. To this end, she recalled that the Mediterranean per diem expenses is a good dietary patron saint for which she provided a list of practical tips to follow.
