Alberto Garmendia, an architect at Ritcher et Dahl Rocha (Switzerland), has won the first award HIC* 2012 for the best academic project of the year, awarded by the blog HIC et NUNC, which focuses on architecture and the city. The winner did his project 'Vivero de ideas en Zaragoza' in 2012 at the University of Navarra, under the direction of Professor Julio Clúa.

The scope of Alberto's project is located in the Aragonese capital, at the point where the Huerva River is buried to run under the Gran Vía. "The program arose from a reflection on the current crisis status and especially the dramatic status of the youth employment . It proposes the creation of an incubator of ideas for young people; a place to meet, discuss and work in order to be more competitive in the workplace tomorrow. Thus, the project is born with two purposes: first, and most importantly, to improve an urban area and second, to solve a program," explains Alberto.

At the urban level, "proposes a clear and efficient solution, a roof that improves the pre-existing connections and generates a public space on the upper level. Under this roof, and taking advantage of the topographic work that requires the communication of both levels, the program of the nursery is developed, which is composed of the following uses: ideas forum, advisory service area, conference room exhibitions, classroom area, workshops and laboratories, and a cafeteria-restaurant, "says Alberto.

The HIC et NUNC blog seeks to disseminate quality academic projects from various schools of architecture, within a framework with an international vocation that promotes discussion. The HIC* awards are based on the monthly selection made by readers to reward the three best academic projects published on the platform during 2012.

The jury composed of Ibon Bilbao, Miquel Lacasta and Gonzalo Heredia awarded the second prize award to Almudena Cano, from the ETSA of Madrid, for 'Strategies for the regeneration of public space in Ahmedabad', and the third prize to Guillem Pons Ros, from the ETSA of Barcelona, for 'Multi-religious center in Felanitx'.
