Patricia Castrillo Sanz, student of high school Liceo Monjardín of Pamplona, has been the winner of the regional phase of the Biology Olympiad. In the test, held at the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra last Saturday, February 13, 101 students from 22 schools in the region participated.
The second best result was for Ruth Rada Díaz, from IES Ribera del Arga (Peralta), and the third place went to María Garde Garcia, student of IES Padre Moret Irubide.
Special mentions were also given to the students Ángel Fernández Gil, Alejandro Monroy Ostivar, Nahia Pérez de Ciriza, Raúl Carrasco Echeverría, Rocío Armendáriz, María Chérrez Calvo and Laura Bermúdez Ballesteros for their good participation. The submission awards ceremony will be held online next Wednesday, March 3, and will be attended by representatives of the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra and the high school Official Biologists of Navarra.
The schools and institutes participating in this regional phase were IES Padre Moret Irubide, Miravalles, Redin, Irabia, Izaga, Maristas, Nuestra Señora del Huerto, San Ignacio-Jesuitas, IES Basoko, IES Mendillorri, IES Iturrama, IES Marqués de Villena, IES Ribera del Arga, IES Zizur, IES Pablo Sarasate, IES Valle del Ebro, Liceo Monjardín, Sagrado Corazón, San Cernin, Jesuitinas, Luis Amigó and Teresianas.
The top three finishers will participate from March 11 to 14 in the national phase of the Biology Olympiad -organized by the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao- which will be held telematically in this edition. The students who obtain the four best positions in the national test will opt for the international test , which this year will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) from 18 to 25 July 2021. On the other hand, those who place 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in the national phase will be able to compete in the Iberoamerican Biology Olympiad, which will be held online during the first fortnight of September and will be hosted by Costa Rica.
