The University presents the project of research, diffusion and dynamization of Santa Cruz de Eslava.

The activities carried out at the Navarre archaeological site have so far attracted 1,500 people.

This Thursday, May 17, took place in Civican the presentation of the Program educational of Santa Criz de Eslava, developed by the University of Navarra. Those in charge of designing the pedagogical resources for promote the dynamization of the Roman site have been some students of the School of Education and Psychology within their work End of Degree, which has been directed by Professor Carmen Urpí, member of group of research VOICES (Voices of Innovation and Creativity in the Education and Society).

The event was also attended by the presentation of the Virtual Museum where some of the sculptural, architectural and epigraphic materials of Santa Criz de Eslava, located in the current Merindad de Sangüesa, can be visualized in 3D and through the Internet. "At the moment, of the 33 elements scanned, 25 pieces are published with detailed information", said Pablo Serrano, one of the technicians in charge of carrying out the Virtual Museum. He also took the opportunity to announce that work is being done on the recreation of the city of his time based on the models obtained.

This act of presentation, which was attended by the Councilor for Local Administration, development Rural and Environment, Isabel Elizalde, the mayor of Eslava, Ignacio Barber, mayors of the towns of the region, agents of development local Cederna-Garalur and a varied audience, is part of the activities of partnership agreement signed between the City of Eslava and the University of Navarra to publicize the Roman site in its centenary.

In the presentation intervened Professor Javier Andreu -coordinator of the acts of celebration of the Centenary of Santa Criz de Eslava and professor of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra who, along with technicians Iker Ibero and Pablo Serrano, presented the Virtual Museum, which is result of the research in Santa Criz de Eslava, which has provided one of the most important sets of Roman archaeological material of the northern peninsular and the largest of all Roman Navarre. The digitization has also involved a project of the agreement UNED of Tudela/Obra Social La Caixa/Fundación Caja Navarra.

The Santa Criz Centenary team has also held an international scientific impact colloquium on historical issues related to the Roman city; has attended 31 guided tours, and has conducted educational workshops for schools, families and academic staff.

The issue number of visitors to the site in these eight months of duration of the agreement already exceeds 1100, to which must be added the more than 400 participants who, in March and April last year, attended the Roman themed workshops .

This activity has been possible thanks to funding from the Government of Navarra's development Rural Program, managed by Cederna Garalur and the support of Fundación Caja Navarra.
