The continuous and progressive growth of the School of Philosophy and Letters in recent years -more than 800 students in 24 different programs-, has led the University of Navarra to approve a new School of Education and Psychology, which will begin its operation on September 1, 2014. This brings to 14 the number of Schools and schools that make up the campus in Pamplona and San Sebastian.

For President, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, "the University of Navarra makes a serious and firm commitment to those degrees that contribute most to the development of people and society. The areas of Education and Psychology are identified with the humanistic and service vocation of this academic center".

The objectives of the new School of Education and Psychology are: the Admissions Office of new candidates, increasing the issue of international students; the academic coordination and attention to the student, especially in matters related to the employment rate; the training and the development of the academic staff; and the promotion of several lines of research in areas such as psycho-pedagogical intervention or the management of educational centers, among others.

"The creation of the new Degree in Psychology has highlighted the need to provide the area of Education with a more specific organizational structure," said Professor Rosalia Baena, dean of the School of Philosophy and Letters. "With the implementation of this Degree, the critical mass of the School of Philosophy and Letters would have been around 1,200 students. This is a considerable volume of students with very different academic profiles".

Consequences of the new School of Education and Psychology.

Charo Repáraz, director of department of Education, assures that "the new School of Education and Psychology will bring benefits such as improved communication with academic interlocutors and groups of research national and international. A clearer identity of the areas of Education and Psychology will give greater visibility to the projects and programs of study of research. In Spain, programs of study of Education are usually offered by Schools of Education. A similar status occurs with programs of study of Psychology".

On the other hand, in the areas of Education and Psychology, says Professor Repáraz, "the Degrees have a strong internship and applied orientation, which requires their own infrastructure and a continuous contact with professionals and organizations of each area, such as schools and companies. In addition, the programs of study of Education are regulated professions, with important repercussions on the Office of Academic Affairs of the programs of study".

Challenges of department of Education of the University of Navarra

    Charo Repáraz

The area of Education brings to the new School more than 40 years of experience and several prestigious programs. Once the Degree in Psychology is fully implemented, the issue of students from area of Education will represent more than 60% of the student body of the new School.

For Charo Repáraz, "with a solid basic research and different lines of applied research , it is necessary to continue promoting and developing new projects in partnership with educational agents: universities, schools and institutions. There are challenges in the short deadline that reinforce the international orientation and the continuous effort to ensure that the academic programs of the University of Navarra responds to the demands of both national and international society".

Examples include "the program for visiting professors from international universities, the international internship program or the process that has been initiated so that the prospective students of the Master's Degree in academic staff of Secondary and high school diploma simultaneously obtain the official accreditation of teaching by the high school diploma International.

"Sharing School with the Degree of Psychology -continues Charo Repáraz- is an opportunity to strengthen an already consolidated interdisciplinary partnership . The Master's Degree in Educational and Psychological Intervention is a clear example. The lines of work together and research established with the Clínica Universidad de Navarra (Hospital Pedagogy, Neuropediatrics, Otorhinolaryngology, etc.) provide another point of meeting from which all parties involved will benefit. In more specifically school environments, attention to diversity has long allowed us to collaborate and research hand in hand with professionals and institutions".
