Two University of Navarra graduates, among the best European architects under 40 years of age
Jaime Magén and Francisco J. Magén, founders of Magén Arquitectos, have received one of the 'Europe 40 under 40' awards.
Jaime Magén and Francisco J. Magén, founders of Magén Arquitectos and graduates of the University of Navarra, have been awarded the 'Europe 40 Under 40 International Award', which recognizes the 40 most outstanding architects under the age of 40 in Europe.
The award, promoted by the European Center for Urban Art, Architecture and programs of study design , in conjunction with The Chicago Athenaeum, aims toidentify and goal promote the next generation of European talent among Europe's architects, landscape architects, urban and industrial designers.
The 40 winners come from 16 countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey and Spain. On the part of the latter, only the Magén and the Catalan Pepe Gascón were honored.
Magén Arquitectos was created in Zaragoza by Jaime Magén (1974) and Francisco J. Magén (1980), after finishing their programs of study at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra. Their built works have received more than thirty national and international awards and recognitions and have won more than twenty prizes in architectural competitions.
Numerous international awards
In 2007 they won in Munich the award International Bauwelt Architecture Award for the best first work for the 68 VPO building in Zaragoza. In 2011, their Europa building was awarded the "Giancarlo Ius" Gold Medal by the International Union of Architects at the framework of the Barbara Cappochin International Architecture Biennale in Padua for the most innovativeproject in the field of energy saving and renewable energy technologies.
Other awards include the accredited specialization of the XI Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (Comillas, Santander, 2011), the First award SAIE Selection (Bologna, 2010) for the best building constructed in wood, the award Aplus (Barcelona, 2011) in the category of Sustainable Architecture, the XXXI award Ricardo Magdalena (Zaragoza, 2010), and the Mentions in the award European Social Housing Ugo Rivolta (Milan, 2009) and in the award International Sustainable Architecture Fassa Bortolo (Ferrara, 2010). Recently, they have been finalists of the international award Detail (Berlin, 2012).
