The digital edition of the Holy Bible was the third best-selling non-fiction book in 2017 on iTunes iBooks. It also ranks fourth among the best-selling Spanish-language books on Google Play Books, according to both platforms in their bestseller lists at the end of the year.

The School of Theology of the University of Navarra and the publishing house EUNSA launched in October 2016 the digital version of the document with the goal to second Pope Francis' wish that the Bible could be carried on a mobile or tablet. "The important thing is to read the word of God, by all means, and to receive it with an open heart," explained the Pontiff.

In this regard, the Dean of the School of Theology, Juan Chapa, stressed the importance of adapting the Bible to digital format when "according to surveys, eight out of ten young people use their smartphone to read".

The digital edition, which went on sale for 2.99 euros, includes the five volumes of the paper edition in a space of between 6 and 10Mb. In addition, a Latin American version, adapted to the Spanish of that part of the world, was offered for the first time.
