Miquel Solans, PhD student of project 'Natural law and rationality internship' of the Institute for Culture and SocietyMiquel Solans, is spending a stay at the Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn thanks to a scholarship of research granted by the German Academic Service exchange (DAAD).

The stay is framed in his doctoral thesis and focuses on the research on the nature of knowledge moral in Plato. "I analyze the relationship between the notions of good, justice and knowledge in the Platonic dialogue Gorgias," he explains. One of the objectives of his stay is to establish academic links with researchers in German academia. In particular, he is working with the prestigious philosopher Theo Kobusch, an expert on Philosophy Ancient and Medieval, who has published a German translation of Plato's dialogue Gorgias including philosophical commentary.

Enter contact with a different university tradition.

On the other hand, Miquel points out that at the University of Bonn he can access the entire bibliography specialized in German on Plato. He especially values this possibility of becoming familiar with the German philosophical tradition at his own language, since this "constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of contemporary thought and culture".

"The experience is proving to be very positive for me because it allows me to enter contact with a different university tradition that, in the case of the German university, still represents an international benchmark today," Miquel concludes.

Miquel Solans stresses the importance of carrying out a overseas study period for the academic and professional training of a young person researcher. First of all," he says, "because it gives the opportunity to deal with top researchers and to learn first-hand about other centers and teams at research working on the same topics. On the other hand, he stresses that it serves to discover new approaches and "to review one's own approaches, as well as to strengthen thesis and interpretations".
