The students of Master's Degree of design and management Environmental Buildings(MDGAE) participated from June 10 to 14, at the headquarters of postgraduate program of the University of Navarra in Madrid, in a workshop on regenerative architecture led by Professor Nirmal Kishnani, from the National University of Singapore(NUS).
Professor Kishnani focused on the mission statement of architects to create buildings that serve people, communities and organizations, taking into account functional, social and economic considerations. He encouraged students to step forward to the regenerativedesign based on the "ability of buildings to influence their surroundings and include other groups, not only the users of a building, but also the people of the neighborhood and the city." In addition, he said that by creating spaces for human and non-human life, such as plants, animals and insects, along with abiotic flows of water, materials and energy, "these elements (including the building) constitute living systems of great environmental and social impact on the city".
The students carried out in groups a project of regenerative architecture in the area of the postgraduate program headquarters of the University to improve integration with nature and biophilia, connectivity with the center of Madrid and the creation of social spaces to generate communities. The analysis consisted of investigating the systems of public spaces, energy, water, vegetation and biodiversity, food production, mobility, activity and business; and proposing more regenerative improvements that positively impact people, the community and the environment.

As a final part of the workshop, the students presented their work and discussed their proposals and the results with a panel formed by professors Nirmal Kishnani and Ana Sánchez-Ostiz, from the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, together with Taba Rasti, senior partner at Norman Foster's Madrid office.
They also visited the execution of the works of project Infinito Delicias in Madrid, an example of rehabilitation of a building under the premises of the regenerative design . It is an emblematic project carried out by the Daniel and Nina Carasso FoundationFoundation, and by the project offices Husos, Elii y Ultrazul. Both the architectural design and the activities and programming have been conceived as a response to the issues of climate emergency and social justice. As stated on its website by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, this is why, in 2023, "the project received the award Gold Prize-Europe 2023, awarded to the most sustainable building in Europe, for promote social, sustainable and economic circularity, inclusion and community through a new urban paradigm".
