In the fifth edition of the Best In Class awards of Gaceta Médica and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, the medical center has been awarded as the best in patient care in both specialties.
The Clínica Universidad de Navarra has been awarded the Best In Class (BIC) prizes as the Best Hospital in Patient Care at research and Innovation and in Cardiology, among the 127 institutions presented. The two distinctions were awarded in the fifth edition of the aforementioned awards, promoted by the newspaper Gaceta Médica, head of the publishing house Contenidos e Información de Salud, and by the Chair de Innovación y management Sanitaria of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. As will be recalled, in the last edition, the Clínica Universidad de Navarra was recognized with the award for the Best Hospital in Spain in Patient Care and the best in the specialties of Cardiology and Oncology; in 2008 it was distinguished with the award for the best in patient care in the specialization program of Cardiology and in 2007, as the best department of Oncology .
The awards in each of the 24 specialties evaluated this year are chosen from among five selected entities. It should be noted that the Clinic was also a finalist in the specialties of Oncology and Traumatology at result . A total of 127 healthcare entities, including hospitals, health centers and hospital services, have applied for the fifth edition of these awards.
The submission awards ceremony took place last Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Palacio de Congresos in Santiago de Compostela. During the event, Gabriel Canel Crespo, director of the Support Service to the research of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra received the award for the Best Hospital in Patient Care in Innovation and research from Luis Mora, director general of Pharma Mar. department Dr. Juan José Gavira Gómez, a specialist at the Clinic's Cardiology Department, received the award for Best Cardiology Service in Patient Care from Iñigo Fernández, director Institutional Relations of Servier.

goal The BIC awards are granted with the aim of "publicly recognizing the best primary care center, the best hospital and the best services and units in Spain, both public and private, that seek excellence in the care they provide to their patients", as described by the organization itself. Thus, the ultimate aim of the awards is to "stimulate the integration of healthcare quality in the management of Spanish hospitals, as a motivating element for the healthcare professionals and managers who participate in them," they argue.

The awarding of the different prizes is based on the score obtained according to the ICAP index (Patient Care Quality Index), "developed especially for these awards and established from the multivariate analysis of the data collected in the specific questionnaires completed by the hospitals through the web www.premiosbic.com ". The management of the documentation provided by the different hospitals ensures confidentiality, as well as anonymity when it comes to submitting it to the jury's judgment.
For the awarding of the prizes, Gaceta Médica appoints a committee of experts of recognized prestige in the health field, from agreement with the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. To guarantee the independence of the process of assessment and score , a system of anonymous applications is used.
It should be noted that the BIC awards are supervised by the quality certification business AENOR (association Española de Normalización y Certificación) and the "Ad Qualitatem" Foundation for Healthcare Quality.
