Laboratorios Ojer Pharma, a spin-off of the University of Navarra, has initiated clinical trials of a bioadhesive gel indicated for primary dermatological infections, such as impetigo, folliculitis and furunculosis.

The tests, authorized by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices, will be performed at the Clínica Universidad de Navarrapartnership with the department of Microbiology and Parasitology and with the research center in Applied Pharmacobiology (CIFA) of the academic center.

The new drug is a lipogel that delivers the antibiotic to the part of the body affected by the dermatological infection. According to Ojer Pharma's director , Carlos Gonzalez, "Nobactine's formulation has been patented for its ability to transport lipophilic molecules that must act locally and because it can improve the profile efficacy and safety of dermatological actives."

The drug, developed at partnership with the University of Barcelona, has been previously submitted to programs of study for safety and efficacy at Departments of Toxicology and Microbiology and Parasitology of the University of Navarra.

Laboratorios Ojer Pharma S.L. is a spin-off company specialized in the development of new drugs for the treatment of dermatological pathologies, such as infections, dermatitis and ulcerative lesions.
