A book collects for the first time on Spanish three speeches of Cardinal Newman on Christianity and science at the university
The volume is edited by the directors of high school of Anthropology and Ethics and group of research 'Science, Reason and Faith' of the University of Navarra.
The high school of Anthropology and Ethics (IAE) and the group of research 'Science, Reason and Faith' (CRYF) of the University of Navarra have edited the book Christianity and Science in the University. The volume gathers the first translation in Spanish of three speeches of Cardinal John Henry Newman: 'Christianity and Medical Science', 'Christianity and Scientific research ' and 'Christianity and Physical Science'.
These three lectures, along with others that Newman delivered on various disciplines at the Catholic University of Ireland, which he founded in 1854, were collected in the second part of The Idea of a University.
"His main idea is that the diversity of sciences - in object and method - is compatible with a fruitful coexistence and dialogue, thanks to the fact that the sciences are necessarily hierarchical. For Cardinal Newman, from agreement with the multi-secular academic tradition, this is precisely what defines the whole university: to welcome and harmonize the universality of knowledge, from Theology to Medicine and Physics", say the editors and authors of the foreword, Sergio Sánchez-Migallón, director of the IAE, and José Manuel Giménez-Amaya, director of the CRYF.
