Piraí Vaca fuses Latin American and European music in a guitar concert at the university
The Bolivian artist Piraí Vaca offered a guitar concert at the University of Navarra, during which he performed pieces by Latin American and European musicians. The program began with Fiesta and Feria, two works by an artist from his country, Alfredo Domínguez. It was followed by Confesión, Julia Florida and a Danza, by the Paraguayan Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Johann Sebastian Bach' s Violin Sonata No. 2 ended the first part of the performance.
During the second part, Eduardo Caba 's Seis aires indios and Spanish pieces, Un tiempo fue and Itálica Famosa, and Variaciones sobre la gran jota aragonesa, by Joaquín Rodrigo and Francisco Tárrega, respectively, were played.
Piraí Vaca is one of the most nationally and internationally recognized Bolivian artists. Among the awards he has received are the Fellowship of the Americas, the National Music award (Bolivia) and prizes from the International Guitar Competition of Havana, the International Spring Guitar Competition of Walcourt (Belgium) and the International Guitar Competition of the Guerrero Foundation (Spain).
He is also a member of the FENIX International Guitar Quartet, recognized by critics as one of the most important groups in the genre.
