The " Chair " (Roncal Valley Heritage) initiative, a collaboration between language and Cultura Vasca, is organizing a " workshop " on pastoral structures in the Roncal Valley

Chair The “ language ” (Center for Research on Traditional Architecture) of the “ ” and Basque Culture at the School of Humanities and Social Sciencesworkshop University of Navarra has organized the workshop “Erronkaribaxako bordaltëak,” dedicated to the traditional shepherds’ huts of the Roncal Valley. The event will take place this coming Saturday, October 10, starting at 10 a.m., at the Casa de la report in Isaba.

The “ workshop ” will begin with the “ presentation ” (Architectural Workshop) led by project and based on the book “Erronkaribaxako bordaltëak. Arquitectura pastoril tradicional del Valle de Roncal” ( Traditional Pastoral Architecture of the Roncal Valley), with position by Naiara Ardanaz of the Chair of language and Cultura Vasca, and Pablo Orduna Portús, a member of Etniker and manager of the project.

Next, local ethnographer Gotzón Pérez Artutx will explain the traditional use of barns and corrals, their seasonal distribution, and their relationship to agricultural management systems and transhumance. Gema Mayer, from the Basque Culinary Center-Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the Heritage Conservation department t of the Andalusian Regional Government ( board ), will discuss the materials, construction systems, and formal evolution of the valley’s small-scale agricultural architecture. For her part, Maitane Baqué, a local cultural agent, will analyze municipal policies related to the conversion of “bordas” into second homes and the urban planning challenges posed by this process. The morning session will conclude with a “ roundtable ” (a gathering to share experiences and ideas).

In the afternoon, at 4:00 p.m., local builder Jabier Petrotx will drive an visit to a barn currently undergoing renovation, where he will demonstrate how traditional techniques and modern solutions coexist.

The initiative aims to bring this cultural heritage closer to the public and promote encourage reflection on its preservation, its uses, and its adaptation to contemporary needs. The workshop is funded by the Government of Navarre and supported partnership by the Isaba City Council and local entities in the Roncal Valley.
