University professor Idoia Pardavila participates in an international meeting of the European project INSTrUCT to help combat smoking.

On March 11 and 12, the Internationalmeeting on Challenges in the Implementation of training for Smoking Cessation was held in Coimbra, with the participation of Idoia Pardavila, professor at School Nursing. This meeting took place at the framework of project INSTrUCT, funded by Erasmus+, and gathered 106 participants. 

This meeting had the goal to present to the participants the online course INSTrUCT, a course developed during the last academic year, and in which the University of Navarra collaborated in its creation. resource educational course, developed during the last academic year, and in which the University of Navarra's Nursing School collaborated in its creation. "This educational technology seeks to train health sciences students in brief smoking cessation interventions" explains Idoia Pardavila, one of its authors. In addition, this online course is available online and in four languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese).

During the workshop the process of implementation and assessment of INSTrUCT was also presented, in which students, professors and researchers from the 7 European universities participating in project participate. At present, more than 1,000 students from several European universities have completed the pilot phase. 

The event also featured several experts in the field of smoking cessation and teaching, as well as one student of the ESEnfC, Francisco Frias, who shared his experience as a student of the INSTrUCT course in its implementation at the ESEnfC. The student highlighted the virtual scenarios and debriefing, which provide students with the opportunity to experience real-life situations in a virtual context. 

Smoking causes 8 million deaths worldwide

This international project educational aims to be a useful resource to reduce the significant burden of morbidity and mortality associated with smoking in Europe through the training to students of health sciences in smoking cessation. It should be noted that smoking causes 8,000,000 deaths worldwide, which represents approximately 15% of mortality in our context. 

In addition to the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra, the Tobacco Control Unit of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), King's College London, the Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Coimbra, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Universitat de Barcelona, the Erasmushogeschool Brussel and the Universitat de Lleida are participating in the project . In addition, it is led by the Tobacco Control Unit of the high school Catalonian Oncology
