Augusto Sarmiento, professor of the School of Theology at the University of Navarra, has published the book "La espiritualidad matrimonial. The mystery of marriage". Edited by the high school Superior of Sciences for the Family of this same center, the work arises with the goal of "contributing to show the beauty and dignity of marriage as the fullness of Christian life, and to help to make the events and circumstances of married and family life an adequate response to the greatness of this vocation. At final, it seeks to deepen the what, why and what for of the vocation to marriage, from the perspectiveof the how", explains the author.

What is conjugal spirituality, when it can be said that the existence of the spouses is the adequate expression of this spirituality or why it is determinant for the life of the spouses and of the family community are some of the questions raised by the book and to which the reader can give answers throughout its pages: "It is a reflection, by way of synthesis, of the elements that are the basis and determine the spirituality proper to the marital vocation. There are many ways of conceiving and living conjugal spirituality, and that is a good thing. Within this diversity, each married couple is called to the fullness of Christian life, to which they must arrive through the circumstances of each day". He adds that "in this variety there are some common elements that characterize the vocation to marriage, distinguish it from others and make it specific. When we refer to the spirit in which it is to be lived, it is appropriate to speak of a matrimonial spiritualitywhich is what this book is about.

Author of several works related to marriage and the family, in this monograph Professor Sarmiento addresses himself "to married couples, so that they may strive to identify themselves each time with the greatness of the marital vocation and so that, being aware of conjugal love as gift and grace, they may discover in the events of each day the way to respond to that gift. It is also addressed to those who are preparing for marriage, so that they may spare no effort in putting the means at training and preparation - at all levels - that its beauty and dignity demand". Likewise, its reading can be useful for those who work in the family, pastoral, etc., so that they can help to discover and live the greatness of the vocation to marriage.

Augusto Sarmiento is Full Professor emeritus of Moral Theology at School of Theology at the University of Navarra. Author of several books related to marriage and the family, he is consultant of the Subcommission of Family and Life, of the Spanish Episcopallecture , and consultant of the Pontifical committee for the Family.
