2,016 University students contribute 42,928 hours to the Solidarity Study Olympiad

The money raised will support solidarity projects in Senegal and Ecuador.

The University of Navarra has contributed 42,928 hours to the XIII Solidarity Olympiad of Studyorganized by the ONGD Coopera, Cooperación Internacional and ACTEC. Subsequently, the sponsors of these organizations will convert each hour of study into one euro to finance the selected solidarity projects: one in Senegal and another in Ecuador.

Through this campaign, in which 2,016 students from different Schools and schools of the academic center participated, the aim was to raise awareness among young people about the importance of access to Education in underdeveloped countries. To evaluate study time, students placed ballots with the number of hours dedicated to study in the different ballot boxes provided.

Of the total hours totaled at the University of Navarra (42,928 hours), 25,829 hours correspond to the libraries of campus in Pamplona (1,228 participants); 1,970 hours to campus in San Sebastián (113 participants); and 15,129 hours to the university halls of residence and university clubs (675 participants).           

The 2015 Senegal project aims to improve the nutrition of children at the Omar IbnKhatab school in Malicounda. To this end, they will set up a livestock farm to feed 150 children at high school.

On the other hand, Ecuador's project will benefit 1,600 people in the indigenous community of Cotacachi. The purpose is to improve the infrastructure, materials and pedagogical models of 10 local schools.
