The School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra has launched the Permanentseminar of Humanities Pharmaceutics. This lecture series, which started last 17th, is organized by the area of Humanities Pharmaceuticals with the goal to discuss ethical, legal or social issues of the pharmaceutical profession.

These sessions are aimed at all persons, students, teachers or the general public, interested in the humanistic aspects of pharmaceutical work. As Professor José López Guzmán, coordinator of seminar, explains, "the aim is to bring pharmacy students, or pharmacists who attend, closer to current issues in the profession, approached from a broad perspective, showing them that professional excellence is not only acquired through technique, although this is the essential starting point".

The seminar arises with the idea of supporting the pharmacist's integral training that "requires a continuous training that goes beyond the technical aspects, and that takes into consideration ethical and legal issues," says Professor López Guzmán.

"Pharmacy, vocation or business?"

Eugenio Izu Belloso, pharmacist inspector of the Government of Navarra, opened the first session of seminar under the degree scroll "Pharmacy, vocation or business? More than 40 people attended the meeting in which a constant exchange of concerns and experiences prevailed around the internship in the pharmacy office.

Regarding the most topical issues, the professional treatment of medical prescriptions (how they should be and their correct dispensing) was the subject of much debate. Izu presented several cases of irregularities found in the Autonomous Community and encouraged the attendees to never lose "professional finesse", since carelessness can entail risks for the health of the population. The problems of reverse distribution and the proper use of the patient's data were also discussed.

The registration to each session of the seminar is independent and those interested in attend should reserve place previously writing to jlguzman@unav.es. All of them will be assured of place, will be given information about the session, guest and material about the topic to be discussed along with a certificate of attendance.
