"Adolescence, unlike childhood, is full of enigmas," says Gerardo Castillo, Professor Emeritus of the School of Education and Psychology of the University of Navarra and author of the book Adolescencia: mitos y enigmas .

How to harmonize the differences between parents and children? What subject of Education favors a good future professional decision? What are the possible consequences of addiction to mobile? These are some of the questions that Gerardo Castillo answers in his book, where he approaches adolescence from three focuses: its origin, typical behaviors and its drift in the era of postmodernism.

"Young people live in a consumerist and technological society, which induces them to buy without rest," explains the professor, who warns of Internet addiction: "They are hooked on video games from an early age and abandon the usual free games, which are essential for physical, social and imaginative development ".

Addiction to cell phones

Gerardo Castillo warns that the continued use of cell phones can lead to addiction, which is often an indicator of problems of insecurity, loneliness and self-esteem. To avoid this, he provides advice and discusses the attitude of adolescents.

The book refers to current problems of adolescence, such as "precocity" of puberty and "extended adolescence", also known as Peter Pan Syndrome; as well as the main concerns of parents. "Sometimes the body development is mistakenly associated with mental maturation and demands are made of children what they cannot yet do."

Helping a child or adolescent student to demystify adolescence and unveil its enigmas will help him or her discover the meaning and possibilities of the age he or she is living," emphasizes the author. This better knowledge of himself will help the adolescent to understand and accept himself throughout his evolutionary development , thus eliminating possible unfounded fears and anxiety disorders".
