"Children do not see the need for effort, which makes it difficult to development will," says University of Navarra professor Gerardo Castillo. The expert in Education and Psychology warns in his book Challenges of Postmodern Adolescents' (Ed. Eunate) about (Ed. Eunate) about the consequences of 'permissiveness educational'. These include "encouraging purely spontaneous behavior, devoid of reflection and self-demand".

Castillo explains that parents who do not exercise authority are raising children without self-control and respect. From agreement with the educator, tolerating that a child kicks his mother so that he does not get frustrated or lose self-esteem is engendering a tyrant who will most likely end up mistreating his parents: "The little emperor syndrome increases considerably", he points out.

Regarding the society of the future, he ventures that it will be "as permissive as the current one", characterized by the crisis of values such as truth, justice and honesty. "In the permissive society, moral norms do not transcend the individual, but arise autonomously," he points out, "what is ethical is decided by majority or consensus at each moment." He assures that this context is already affecting families, as it generates individualism among its members.

Consumerism, the new elixir of happiness

On the other hand, the expert maintains that in today's consumerist society there is a lot of talk about addiction to alcohol and drugs, but very little about addiction to things, which in some cases reaches the point of idolatry: "Consumerism is the new elixir of happiness. It is ignored that the more consumerism, the less protagonism staff". As a solution, he proposes to educate freedom in families and teach children that happiness cannot be bought; which requires training parents in their family responsibilities.

Likewise, according to Castillo, everything positive in society is germinated in the family. "Society is no longer an educator, the cult of heroes that gave us an example of sacrifice and self-improvement is disappearing," he adds. For this reason, he concludes that there is a lack of preventive Education : "The adolescent's Education should begin in pre-adolescence".
