The School of Pharmacy celebrates its 50th anniversary
More than 6,800 students have passed through the center and 475 doctoral theses have been defended at thesis .
The School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra celebrates its 50th anniversary. In this time 6,889 alumni have passed through this center, among them 1,700 from Navarra. To these must be added the 814 students currently enrolled at Degree and postgraduate program.
As the fifth School in Spain, in chronological order, Pharmacy has faced the changes in the profession with pioneering proposals of research, teaching and development international of the pharmaceutical sector. Among them, it is characterized by being a forerunner in establishing a close research relationship with the industry, having its own pharmaceutical technology plant for the development of medicines, offering a Double Degree in Pharmacy and Nutrition and incorporating a pharmacyclassroom internship for the teaching.
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the academic center celebrates a gala this Saturday, the 25th, at 7:30 p.m. in Baluarte, Palacio de Congresos Auditorio de Navarra. The meeting will be chaired by Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, President of the University of Navarra, and Adela López de Cerain, dean of the School. They will be accompanied by alumni from all over Spain. high school Among those from Navarra are Yolanda Barcina, president of the Autonomous Community of Navarra; Alberto Catalán, president of the Parliament of Navarra; Pilar García, president of the Official Pharmacists' Association of Navarra; and Ana Aliaga, administrative assistant general of the General Association of Official Pharmacists' Associations ( committee General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmacéuticos).
Pioneer at research and teachingIn these 50 years, 475 doctoral thesis have been defended and 628 people have completed programs of study of postgraduate program, between the specialization program in Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy and its two master's degrees: the research, development and Innovation of Medicines and the Master's Degree European in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism.
In the 2013-2014 academic year, the School of Pharmacy bet on the research with 37 projects (almost 84% is national and European external funding) in lines such as the application of nanotechnology for the vehiculization of drugs and the development of new treatments for cancer, or the study of risk factors and new treatments for neuropsychiatric pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease and depression. In the same period, 106 scientific articles and book chapters were published, 81 communications to congresses and 2 patents were registered.
In addition, the professionals of the School participate in four centers of research of the campus of Pamplona: the research center in Applied Pharmacobiology (CIFA), the research center in Nutrition, the research center Applied Medical (CIMA ) and the Tropical Health Institute, as well as in the Unit of development of Medicines.
The adaptation to Bologna has also been an opportunity for the School, expanding its offer of Degree. Thus, it has two Degrees (Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics), the double Degree and 4 diplomas, with the new one of management Pharmaceutics launched this year.
With a employment rate of 89%, last year the center offered its students 328 internships in companies, hospitals and pharmacies; 20 offers of employment to postgraduates and 58 international agreements at exchange .
