The prestigious academic publishing house Palgrave has published the book of the international workshop 'Taking the pulse of our times: average Therapy and emotions', which the project 'Emotional culture and identity ' of Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) held at the University of Navarra in November 2014. The volume has been edited by Claudia Wassmann, Marie Curie Fellow of the Institute in the academic years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 and current collaborator of project.

This research has been funded by a Marie Curie Intra European Fellowship at framework of the 7th European Community Framework Programme (contract of scholarship n° PIEF-GA-2012-327538).

The book is a collection of interdisciplinary reflections on emotional cultures in contemporary societies. Professor Wassmann and eight other experts in psychology, communication, history or Philosophy try to show how film or television productions reflect reality, and in turn, how they shape it. From anger management or fear of aging to coverage of terrorist attacks or 'therapeutic news', this collection sheds light on the emotional preferences, 'emotional styles' and 'emotional regimes' that changed the course of the 20th century.

Changes in emotional regimes

About the book, Ana Marta Gonzálezscientific coordinator of the ICS, comments that "provides very relevant material for understanding the most significant changes in our emotional regimes." On the other hand, Michael Geyerof the University of Chicago's department of History, notes that "the volume facilitates spaces for bold forays into a new world, a world of transdisciplinarity in European research".

The workshop 'Taking the pulse of our times: average, Therapy and emotions' was promoted by the project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the ICS, which receives funding from Zurich Insurance. The event brought together experts in communication, English literature, history and psychology from 5 different countries -Germany, Canada, USA, Spain and Great Britain- with the goal to reflect on emotions and identity in contemporary Western societies through films and television productions.

Claudia Wassmann holds a PhD in Medicine from the Free University of Berlin and a PhD in History of Science from the University of Chicago (USA). high school In the USA she has developed her postdoctoral research and professional activity at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and before studying History she was Knight Science Journalism Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is currently developing the project 'Scientific Concepts of Emotion and Cultural Identities in Medicine, Social Science, and Film' at the high school of programs of study Advanced at the University of Aix Marseille.
