Next Sunday, April 2, a solidarity degree program will be held in Murchante in favor of the research against cancer. The event is organized by the Murchante Skate Club, the association of Women Basil and the City Council of the town and has the partnership of more than 120 companies, establishments and sports clubs of Murchante and various localities riberas. "This initiative arises with the goal to collaborate in the fight against cancer. We have been very pleasantly surprised by the great sensitivity and partnership of everyone. Thanks to them this project has gone ahead", explains Virginia Salcedo, organizer of the event.

The deadline of registration ended on March 20 with more than 1,400 participants. The funds raised (5 euros per registration) will go to a cancer vaccine project being developed at research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra. "Our work has as goal to develop a vaccine that, alone or in combination with other treatments already existing today, boosts immunity against cancer, so that our body recognizes tumor cells and is able to destroy them and thus fight the disease," explains Dr. Pablo Sarobe, researcher manager of project.

Three modalities

According to the organizers, "participants can do the walk by skating, running or walking. The most daring can even combine the three modalities". Depending on the level of each participant, the following schedules have been established:

  • 10 h: Skates, initiation level.
  • 10.30 h: degree program, initiation level.
  • 11 h: Skates, advanced level.
  • 11.45 h: degree program, advanced level.
  • 12.30 h: test of 5 km through the recently inaugurated "Urban Circuit of the town".

In addition to the sporting events, throughout the morning there will be different activities, such as inflatables and face-painting for the little ones, as well as a solidarity raffle of gifts donated by the collaborators. "On the other hand, you can taste typical products of the area at a solidarity price, such as migas, toast and sausage, as well as pastries made by the Islamic community of Murchante", explain the organizers.
