Diego Galán, from Pamplona, bronze medalist in the Iberoamerican Biology Olympiad
Together with eight Spanish participants, the future student of Medicine prepared the competition in the School of Sciences and the CIMA of the University of Navarra.
Diego Galán from Pamplona has won the bronze medal in the latest edition of the Iberoamerican Biology Olympiad, which was held in Lima (Peru) from August 8 to 14.
The student of high school San Ignacio de Pamplona was one of the three winners in the regional stage of competition and was among the four runners-up in the national phase. This allowed him to make the training for the Ibero-American final at the School de Ciencias y el research center Médica Aplicada (CIMA ) of the University of Navarra. There, along with seven other Spanish representatives, he prepared the main topics to be addressed in both the Ibero-American and international test .
In addition to Diego Galán -a future medical student at the academic center- the other three Spaniards who attended the tournament won two bronze medals and one silver medal, respectively. On the other hand, in the international edition of the test -which took place in Changwon City (Korea) from July 12 to 18- another Navarrese took part, Jon Lerga from Tafalla, from high school Sancho II el Mayor, who was on the verge of winning a medal.
Among the new features announced for the next edition of competition is the test by teams to analyze Ecology issues. Groups of four students from different countries will work together.
34 participantsFor Diego, the level of Biology of the Spanish participants was good: "Although it is true that the representatives from Argentina and Mexico had been preparing for the exam for longer, we also had the week of training at the University of Navarra, something that helped us a lot".
Regarding the difficulty of the test, the student from Pamplona emphasizes that one of the two exams subject test was quite complicated, as well as some of the practices in areas such as Cell Biology or Plant and Animal Physiology.
Diego also highlights the good atmosphere among the participants: "There were 34 of us, all from Latin American countries, so most of us spoke Spanish and we have made a real pineapple among all of us".
