The Simulation Center of the School of Medicine has joined this year for the first time the initiative Healthcare Simulation Weekinitiative, an event promoted by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare of the United States, in which educational and healthcare institutions from all over the world participate. For this purpose, from September 17 to 21, it organized several open days with different activities aimed at University professionals, students doing non-healthcare programs of study and the general public.

"We wanted to raise awareness of the role of simulation centers and in-hospital simulation. It is a way of highlighting the value of this work which, ultimately written request, results in a better attention for the patient, with more efficiency, more safety and more professional skill ", explains Dr. Cristina Honorato, deputy director of the Simulation Center.

According to him, simulation is a "very valuable" tool in the training of healthcare professionals: "It allows learning technical skills and leadership skills and work in a team without putting patients or students at risk, and in a safe and controlled environment. Learning by doing is always more effective and, many times, more fun: personal bonds and memories are created that reinforce values and appropriate attitudes in the management of emergencies or difficult situations in the healthcare environment".

Attendees were able to participate in childbirth and ophthalmology seminars, basic CPR workshops to perform resuscitation in case of cardiac arrest, and cardiac auscultation. "They have explained some maneuvers to do in case of emergency that I didn't know until now, so the visit has been very positive," says Blanca Torres, from the University's Admissions Office service.
