"The Bible is the great story that narrates the wonders of God's mercy." These are words of Pope Francis recalled by Professor Juan Chapa during the presentation in Madrid of the new digital edition of the Bible of the University of Navarra, edited by EUNSA.

The event, which was held at Casa América, was attended by Dean of the School of Theology of the University of Navarra; Javier Balibrea, director of publishing house; and journalist Fernando de Haro, director of COPE weekend news, who acted as moderator.

The digital version includes all 6,600 pages of the paper version of the Bible, which was published between 1997 and 2004. The new edition can be found at download on file of between 6 and 10 megabytes "easy to navigate, thanks to a quick index and an analytical index", according to director of EUNSA.

Professor Chapa highlighted the goal of Pope Francis for the Bible to be known and disseminated more and more and for a prayerful reading of the sacred text to strengthen the spiritual life of its readers. In this regard, he expressed his joy because this desire of the Holy Father coincides with that of St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of the University, who asked the School of Theology for this commission of the Bible in 1971.

A proprietary edition also in Latin American Spanish

The Dean of the School of Theology pointed out that the University of Navarra "could not fail to second this wish of the Pope and make his Bible available to the general public in a digital version". Not only because of the technical characteristics, he explained, but above all because it has also been launched in a Latin American version. "We are especially excited about the release of this edition, which we think will be very well received throughout Latin America and also among the Spanish-speaking community in the United States".

The text of the Bible, translated from the original texts, is complemented by a set of commentaries and cross-references that allow you to understand the central message of each passage. A total of 38,700 internal links are available. Thus, of the total size of file, one third corresponds to the original translated text and slightly more than two thirds are commentaries, indexes, introductions and maps. The computer engineer Guillermo Sanz has been the architect of the digital part.

The new edition is available on three platforms: iTunes iBooks, Google Play Books and Amazon Kindle. So far, 10,000 copies have been sold in this format. It can be purchased for 2.99 euros.
