Stories of the Coronavirus: Science professionals in times of "confinement".

March 17. 8:30 a.m.How are our Erasmus students doing? What projects is School developing now? Will there be workshop Open Doors in March? Can I apply for the Admissions Office to the new Master's Degree Computational Methods in Science? What about my summer internship? Although we have had to close the doors of School for a while we continue to serve our students, alumni and prospective students. We tell you how some of our professionals are living the confinement.

"The administrative office of the School is at plenary session of the Executive Council performance. We are serving students from Degree and doctorate by both email and phone."
The administrative office of the School of Sciences continues with its schedule and usual work. Inma Santamaría tells us that many students and teachers are making queries both by email and WhatsApp. Some of the main tasks that are being developed these days in the administrative office of the School is to close the schedules of the next course, prepare the tribunals of the work End of Degree that are scheduled to be defended in May, as well as other bureaucratic issues.

Santiago Caireta, manager of Admissions Office of Science, tells us that he is managing with normality the new requests for information and requests for Admissions Office to the Degrees of the School. In addition, he is also preparing new scientific knowledge dissemination sessions and activities for the next course. The most immediate is the preparation of the Open Doors workshop (online) to be held on Saturday, March 28, where more than fifty students are expected to attend. high school diploma.

"The priority is that all the students of exchange, both at entrance as well as those coming out, feel accompanied by the University".
Ainhoa Ruiz de Erenchun, manager of International Office of the School, tells us that her priority in the first days of confinement has been to know the status that the students of exchange have. "We are recommending to the students who are away to come back and let us know if the host university gives them possibilities to follow the distance classes". On the other hand, Ainhoa is managing the cancellation of some curricular trips that were planned, such as those of the Landscapes Program of the Degree in Environmental Sciences and those of the Science and Business Program.

"We are working normally but at a distance. The School continues with its projects".
José Manuel Trillo, director of development of the School, tells us that the adaptation of the different areas of management of the School has been "fast and exemplary" to be able to continue with the natural course of the activity and with the different projects underway. Thus, says José Manuel, the teaching continues in a non-presential way and the professors continue to teach the subjects and give advice. José Manuel Trillo wanted to highlight the online counseling that is being provided to the Science students regarding the internships at business. The most immediate thing that Trillo has on his desk is the preparation of the workshop Open Doors Online (March 28).

"I am at contact with the students via WhatsApp, to get their impressions about teaching online and to be able to solve their doubts quickly."
Elena Zaragozá is the programs of study coordinator of the School. In this period of teleworking she is at contact permanently with students and teachers in order to answer their doubts regarding the teaching online. Elena is focusing on coordinating teaching online -through the elaboration of activity maps professor- to see "how teachers are approaching the subjects these days and what resources they are using".

Jokin Larrondo, manager of Admissions Office of the Masters in Science, responds every day to the different requests for information about both Master's Degree in Computational Methods and research Biomedical Methods. Jokin - who is sample optimistic about the current status - uses social networks and different online resources as tool of work which "is leading to a slight increase in requests for information, which we hope will turn into requests for Admissions Officein the next few days".

Cristina Martínez

"In the afternoons I connect with students via Hangouts to answer their questions."
Cristina Martínez Cabañas, manager of Career Services of the School, is "connected from home". Cristina tries to provide answers every day to the doubts that both companies and students have for the development summer internship. "What worries them (students) most is their summer and whether they will be able to go to London, New York, Australia.... I recommend that they prepare for the change, research the job market, build their CV and above all pursue their dreams." Cristina acknowledges that some companies - in the face of the current status - have order cancelled internships, others have postponed them, and others have continued with the planned program.
