Antonio Aretxabala, director technician of the laboratory of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and delegate in Navarra of the high school Official Geologists, explained in the Parliament of Navarra the monitoring he has done of the earthquakes that have taken place in the area of Pamplona since February 14, 2013. Of the nearly 300 seismic events, two of them have reached magnitude 4.2ML.

In his speech he spoke of the possible hydro-seismic origin of the movements, since in recent months rainfall has beaten all known historical records and the area has abundant salts from the Keuper and three intercalated aquifers, in addition to the contagion and transfer of stresses to the Pamplona or Estella Fault.

Precisely, Aretxabala participates in the last weeks in several activities in Pamplona related to the recent increase of seismic activity in Pamplona and its relation with urban planning: On March 21, he gave a talk with safety guidelines to the neighbors of Sierra del Perdón, on March 26, he gave a talk at the Pamplona Planetarium lecture On April 11, he participated as a guest at the second edition of the #Science Thursdays of the Friends of Science Cluband on May 29, 2013, he will speak at the classroom of Sustainability of the Museum of Environmental Education organized by the City Council of Pamplona.

One of the experts of reference letter in Spain

It should be recalled that Antonio Aretxabala also actively collaborated in the design of the resilience of Lorca (Spain) after the 2011 earthquake, with the University of Murcia, the Federation of Entrepreneurs, City Hall, Europarliament and other companies and official bodies.

Antonio Aretxabala is director technician of the laboratory of School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and delegate of the Illustrious high school Official Geologists' Association in the region of Navarra. He collaborates with companies and institutions of the sector in the study of pathologies of the Building and construction in general, especially of the Historical Heritage. teaching He also works as professor of Geotechnics at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, professor of Geomorphology at School of Sciences of the University of Navarra and visiting professor of Soil Mechanics at TECNUN (Industrial Engineering) in San Sebastian. He is also co-founder of INDERC(International Network for the Design of Earthquake-Resilient Cities).
