18 experts in MIDI meetings

Students from Master's Degree attended sessions with managers from leading laboratories, industries, companies, universities, regulatory agencies and research centers.

The participants of the issue 26 edition of the Master's Degree in research, development and Medication Innovation (MIDI) of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra have counted this year with 18 experts in the meetings, held most Fridays of the year with the goal to bring together students with leading experts in the pharmaceutical sector.

From a session on how to be versatile in this field, to a meeting on the accreditation of clinical laboratories, through the types of medical devices or the programs of study of genotoxicity and carcinogenesis of drugs, several of the meetings were held at position by alumni of MIDI who are working in positions of responsibility in various companies, laboratories, etc.

This was the case of Vicente Martínez (MIDI 93), medical manager of Takeda, who spoke about "Real World Data" in the pharmaceutical industry; Javier Calvo (MIDI 02), whose session focused on the fundamentals and applications of mass spectrometry, a field in which he works at CICbiomaGUNE; or José Terencio (MIDI 93), director of GRI-CEL operations, who explained to the students the value of biotech companies.

An opportunity to make contacts with the industry

Among the laboratories in attendance, Pilar García-Morato -technical director of Laboratorios Rovi in Madrid- addressed the Lean methodology in pharmaceutical plants. According to the directive, the Lean production system is an integral methodology of management applicable to any environment, which is based on eliminating waste by creating a standard of management, maximizing efficiency and performance in all areas; establishing decision-making processes, management of risks, continuous improvement and communication oriented to improve productivity; and on work in an open, productive and transparent environment.

Dr. Simon Croft, Professor of Parasitology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK), was among the guests from other centers at research , who spoke in depth about the development of drugs for neglected diseases.

Finally, summarizes the coordinator of the master's degree program at School of Pharmacy, Sonia Zapata, the aim is to offer student "the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and the most interesting topics in the sector, explained by the professionals who are carrying them out". In addition, she adds, "it is an excellent opportunity to broaden their contacts with the industry".
