Solidarity in "the kitchen
Several students of Human Nutrition and Dietetics and the double Degree with Pharmacy have participated in sessions to teach how to follow a healthy per diem expenses in the CORE Foundation.
A group of students of 3rd year of Human Nutrition and Dietetics and 6th year of the double Degree with Pharmacy have participated this year in a solidarity activity taught at the CORE Foundation, a non-profit organization that works in the reception, teaching and integration of immigrants.
Aimed at this group, the sessions with Pharmacy and Nutrition students had as goal to teach them basic notions to follow a healthy per diem expenses , to show the dietary customs and practices of the Mediterranean per diem expenses and, in some sessions, to offer simple guidelines to prepare menus for children and the elderly, groups that they often take care of in their jobs.
As explained by Professor Itziar Zazpe, the goal of the activity - framed in the subject Education Nutritional and that has been taught in other courses with the partnership of Professor Susana Santiago - has been that the students "experience first hand the volunteer activities and may incidentally, have their first experience giving talks," since all sessions were given by students.
For Amaia López de Arregui (3rd year of NHyD), the experience was valuable because it allowed them to "transmit the knowledge that we learn during the degree program to other people who need it, and to see how grateful they are for that little financial aid that we give them is the best thing I take away from the sessions". Blanca Pellejero (3rd year of NHyD) assures that in these sessions "you realize that you know much more than you think, and you give a little of your time but they give you adrenaline for much longer".
María Pascual and Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro (6th year Double Pharmacy and NHyD) emphasize the participation of the people, their desire to learn "and the satisfaction it gives us to offer them that training".
